Abergavenny Food Festival

This weekend marks the 11th year of the Abergavenny Food Festival. With some high profile visitors, including the French Prime Ministers wife Penelope Fillon originally from Abergavenny, it's certain this year's festivities promises more culinary delights than you can shake a Jamie Olivers compendium of recipes at.

Former Les Routiers Welsh hotel of the year, Allt Yr Ynys owner, Elaine Williams told us, "For the first time the True Taste of Wales Awards have been moved from Cardiff to Abergavenny, proving its status as the food capital of Wales. This is a fixture in the calendar we all look forward to, not only to raise Abergavennys profile bringing people in from all over the world, but the sheer delight of seeing the best food producers in Wales showcasing their wares. This weekend Abergavenny Hotels will be filled to bursting point with celebrities, food critics, journalists and the curious. Hotels in Brecon Beacons will have the honor of providing hospitality for all these people who will, we hope, go away with the message that Welsh food producers are at the top of their industry"

The festival will begin on Thursday 17th September with a variety of run-up events which includes the, not to be missed, Fanfare of the Food Festival which begins at 7pm. It is then a packed itinerary right through until 4pm on Sunday afternoon. Highlights not to be missed are the finals of the "Best Sausage Maker" which starts at 9.15am on Saturday, party at the Castle on Saturday night at 7.30pm and "Discovering Fine Chocolate" on Sunday at 11.00am.

So if you fancy a weekend of feasting and frivolity, Abergavenny is the place to be. Even though most Brecon Beacons Hotels will be full you are sure to find room somewhere. Tickets for some of the shows are already sold out but there will still be lots to see and do.

Abergavenny is nestled in the famous Usk Valley surrounded by The Brecons and The Black Mountains. Often referred to as The Gateway to Wales, Abergavenny is steeped in Historic tradition and culture. There are great rail links into the town and is also well served by buses and coaches. If travelling by car from the South East, London or Home Counties take the M4. The A40 leads from the Cotswolds, Gloucester and Monmouth. From the North and Midlands take the M6, M5, M50 and A40.
